Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Community Engagement

This bushfire season Fire Chat will be the new ‘branding umbrella’ for Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) community engagement and communications around bushfire.  This will be supported by the Are You ReadyCampaign. Fire Chat replaces DFES previous bushfire communications known as Prepare. Act. Survive.

A suite of new bushfire planning and preparation tools have been developed, consisting of 5 minute Fire Chat, and supported by Your Bushfire Preparation Toolkit, which are two simple steps aimed at helping residents to be better prepared for bushfire.

The 5 minute Fire Chat asks people living in a high bushfire risk area to have a fire chat to discuss three key questions with family and friends or to discuss with their neighbours if they live alone:

  • When will you know to leave?
  • Where will you go?
  • Which way will you go?

 For further details see www.dfes.wa.gov.au/firechat.

Water Corporation : IMPORTANT MESSAGE - Bushfire Season 2017/18

The Water Corporation is prepared for bush fire season however we cannot guarantee that water pressure or water supply will be maintained in the event of a bush fire.

  • We will always do all that we can to maintain supply however fire damaged infrastructure or a cut to power can result in a total loss of water.
  • If scheme water is available during a bush fire it is a bonus for property protection efforts, but it is not something that can be relied upon.
  • People who plan to stay and defend their property during a bushfire need to have their own independent water supply and pumping capability, and must not rely on the public water supply.
  • Full details about how to prepare for the bush fire season can be found on the DFES website. (www.dfes.wa.gov.au/safetyinformation/fire/Pages/default.aspx)
