Boundary Riders Water Hole

Located 8.4kms along the Rabbit Proof Fence Road, past Goatcher Road on the left, is a sign on the right which reads Rock Hole. A walk across the granite to the left for a short distance will bring you to the water hole which was put down when the No 2 Rabbit Proof Fence was constructed in 1904. It stored water for the boundary rider who was responsible for looking after the Rabbit Proof Fence. A few posts indicate the remains of the bush shelter where he used to stay.

Buntine Rocks

These rock areas provide spectacular views of the farming land and are perfect picnic sites.

Cailbro School

Located 9.5kms along Carter Road off Rabbit Proof Fence Road. A restored mud brick school that was built by the community in 1939, it is maintained by the Cail family and you may go in and read about its history.

Dalwallinu Craft Shop (The Old Court House)

Once located across the highway where Landmark is now situated, the craft shop/part time tourist information centre can be found on Johnston Street at the park. The old court house still has the judges bench and also has a cell or two when it was also used as a jail. If you have a minute read the story of ‘Snowy Rowles’.

East Pithara School

Located 18kms east of Pithara on the Pithara-Kalannie Road is the site of the East Pithara School (on the left hand side). The Olympic athlete Shirley Strickland (Del la Hunty) was a pupil at this school as a child.

First Commercial Fatal Air Crash Site

Located 0.5km from Pithara town on the Pithara-Kalannie Road at the entrance to the speedway there is a plaque commemorating the first fatal commercial crash and from the east end of the pavilion take a sight north-east and there is a tree with a large rock in front of it. This is where the plane actually crashed.

Five Graves in Dalwallinu

The five identical graves all in a row and made from marble, can be seen at the Dalwallinu Cemetery. One is the grave of Mr Gustave Liebe, a renowned builder at the turn of the century and also a farmer who, with his partner Wilhelm Klein, pioneered farming at Wubin in the early 1900’s.

Heritage Wheatbin Museum

Located in Wubin, the museum tells the story in photos of change from bagged wheat handling to bulk handling, plus some local history including the story of Gustave Liebe, the builder of His Majesty’s Theatre amongst other well know Perth landmarks.

Kalannie

Winner of the 1992 National Landcare Award, Kalannie is the centre of a large wheat growing area, which is also trialling Oil Mallees for commercial production.

Mia Moon

Located 17kms west of Wubin, this is a spot for orchids in season. Gnamma hole is situated in the granite rocks.

Old Convent

As you enter Dalwallinu heading north on your first right is the Dalwallinu-Kalannie Road. Cross over the railway line and you will see The Old Convent on the right. It was once a school with resident nuns run by the Order of St Joseph until the mid 60’s. It is now a private residence.

Petrudor Rocks

Petrudor Rocks is a large granite outcrop with water holes at the base. It’s a wonderful picnic spot and a great place to see wildflowers and native fauna in season.

Wubin

Wubin Railway Station

Located next to the museum the railway station is the information centre which has an extensive Mineral and Rock collection. Local craft and souvenirs are available.

Xantippe

Located at Xantippe is a water catchment area and a large concrete tank that began being built in 1923 and was finished in 1927. It also has an unusual design of water flow where the water flows along the pipe level with the bottom of the tank, then flows upward to enter the tank at the top.
